Producers Contracts

Producers contracts are common in the music business in order to secure a producer for the recording and mixing of a band or an artist's music. Producers contracts are legally binding agreements between recording artists and music producers, and the agreements specify the terms of the agreement and the rights and responsibilities of all parties. An important clause in producers contracts is the clause regarding who ultimately owns the finished product. Some producers contracts may allow producers to have ownership rights to the master copies of recorded work, though artists generally want to keep the master copies of their work. Payment is also addressed in producers contracts. An advance payment id often negotiated in addition to profit points which allow a producer to a percentage of future profits from album sales or digital downloads. The more experienced and skilled the producer, the more profit points he or she may be entitled to under the terms of a contract.
