Music Royalty

A big rise in music royalty has many artists overjoyed this year. After several years of legal battles with online downloading services, (that will continue even with the rise in royalties), musicians are finally beginning to see a bigger payday. Their performance rights and music licences are both bringing in more cash. This occurred, say experts, in spite of falling sales. Performance rights revenues issue from the public playing of an artist's music. Public playing of music includes many different locations and different platforms such as nightclubs and supermarkets. Due to the falling sales all eyes are now focused on global performance rights revenues. The United Kingdom is considered to have the largest individual collection of performance royalties at $220 million in 2008. Musicians are beginning to find ways to reap the benefits of virtual music downloads. When it became obvious that they were not going away, publishers moved to get as much as possible per song or album downloaded for their artists.
