A music producer contract is a legal contract which specifies the rights, responsibilities, and duties of the parties involved in the production of a musical recording session. Recording sessions are regularly long term events, and it is not uncommon for a producer to work on a particular album for many months. Often music producers are paid in advance under the terms of a music producer contract. They also regularly receive a percentage of future album sales. In a music producer contract, the number of "points" allotted to a producer determines how much profit he or she will make from album sales. Points are usually awarded based on experience and skill level, with top producers making the most points in a contract. A music producer contract may also contain a clause allowing the producer the first rights to re mixing. This means that if a band or artist is unhappy with the final mix, the producer must be given a second chance to re mix the work.
