Million Baseball Contracts

The top Major League Baseball players are currently able to secure contracts often worth well over $100 million. Baseball contracts cost teams billions of dollars in salaries and bonuses, with even the most average player earning more money per year than most people will see in their lifetime. With the average Major League baseball salary currently at over a million dollars and steadily rising, critics have called for a stop to the extreme spending and bloated contracts of Major League Baseball players. The recent revelations regarding illegal steroid use in baseball has led to even more criticism. The large amounts of money at stake and the fierce pressure to succeed have led players to cheat by enhancing their skills with substances, which in turn puts the reputation of the sport in jeopardy. Arguments have been made for salary caps and other measures which would bring baseball contracts back down to reasonable levels, yet no changes have been made thus far.
