Independent Producer Contract

An independent producer contract may be secured by a band or musical artist in order to secure a music producer to oversee the music recording process. Independent producers do not work in conjunction with record labels, but instead function as independent contractors. Bands who do not have a record deal or recording contract in place may seek out an independent producer in order to record their album on their own. Producers direct the recording, mixing, and mastering of musical compositions, and sometimes even help with songwriting and composition. They may coach musicians in order to elicit good performances, and they may direct the arrangement of the recorded songs. An independent producer contract will generally include information relating to the percentage of profits from future sales that a producer is entitled to for his or her work. An advance payment or salary may also be negotiated in an independent producer contract.
