Highest Baseball Contract

The very best and most sought after professional baseball players are often able to secure baseball contracts worth many millions of dollars. Even the worst players make more than enough money to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle, though a handful of players have managed to secure deals worth over 100 million dollars. As of 2008, New York Yankee player Alex Rodriguez, nicknamed "A-Rod," holds the record for the highest baseball contract in history. His ten year contract is worth approximately $275 million dollars. This contract broke the previous record for the highest baseball contract in history, which was $252 million dollars, and this contract also belonged to Alex Rodriguez. The pressure to be the best led Rodriguez to use performance enhancing substances which are banned under the rules and regulations of Major League Baseball. Despite this, Rodriguez remains the current highest paid baseball player in the world, and he has yet to be formally disciplined for using banned substances.
