Football Player Contract

In the world of professional sports contracts, contract terms are often renegotiated and contracts are also frequently voided. Though a player may sign a multi year contract with a specific team, this does not necessarily mean that the team must keep that player for the duration of the contract. Players are often cut early from their contracts or traded to other teams. Basketball contracts are often guaranteed, meaning that if a player is cut early, the team must still pay his salary for the term of the contract. A football player contract, in contrast, does not allow for guaranteed payment. Because of this, football players consider signing bonuses, or the upfront money often paid when a player signs a contract, very important. In the event that a football player gets cut from a team, he may not be guaranteed salary, however the signing bonus is his no matter what happens.
