A baseball contract is a legal contract signed by a baseball player who has been contracted to play for a specific baseball team. A baseball contract will generally be signed for a specific number of years, and the contract will include the annual salary that the baseball player will be paid, along with any other monetary bonuses. Signing bonuses are common, and often the amounts of signing bonuses are quite large. Clauses and special perks are also common, and a baseball contract may include a wide variety of unique provisions. A baseball contract may include personal requirements such as trainers and masseuses, vehicles, plane tickets, stipulations regarding the type of hotel room a player will receive when on the road, and many other specific options. An agent usually negotiates a baseball contract on behalf of the player. A sports agent receives a fee or a percentage of the signing bonus for negotiating the contract.
