Athlete Management

Athlete management refers to sports agents and sports agent attorneys who are hired by athletes to help manage their careers. Agents trained in athlete management regularly secure and negotiate contracts for baseball, basketball, football, and other sports players. Agents help clients secure signing bonuses and negotiate annual salary terms, benefits, and other contract terms. Athlete management agents may also help athletes secure and negotiate endorsements, commercial or television deals, and these agents are paid handsomely for their efforts. Other duties regularly performed by athlete management agents include legal and insurance counseling, public relations issues, and money management and other financial planning services. Athlete management services may even include interview and media training for athletes appearing on television. Athlete management agents represent their clients in many formal legal settings, and argue on their behalf. Athlete management groups may comprise a team of agents with different specialties, including certified attorneys, accountants, and general athlete managers.
