Artists Contract

An artists contract can refer to a number of different contracts involving the arts, from pop music to fine arts. A fine arts artists contract may be an agreement between an artist and a gallery which is exhibiting and selling the artist's work, or a contract for a commissioned artistic work. Artists contracts are also frequently used to negotiate the terms of art reproduction agreements. For example, when a company produces items using an artist's original image on them, such as t-shirts, posters, stationary, or other items, the company and the artist whose images are being used will sign a contract outlining the terms of the reproduction agreement. The contract will specify the percentage of royalties from sales that the artist is entitled to, and may contain other conditions and restrictions related to the reproduction. The term artists contract may also refer to recording artist contracts between record labels and recording artists.
