Artist Management Contract

An artist management contract is also known by a variety of different names, such as a management agreement or a personal management contract. These contracts are negotiated between artists and the manager or management team employed by them. Generally, an artist management contract refers to a recording artist contract, though many other types of artists regularly sign management contracts. An artist management contract should generally be for a set period of time, with a clause covering what happens if the manager leaves the management company before the contract is up. An artist management contract should also state what management expenses the artist is responsible for and how and when the manager shall be paid. In some cases, a management contract may waive payment of fees until the artist gets a recording deal, and expenses may then be recouped. A limited power or attorney may also be granted to the manager in the contract, allowing he or she to sign agreements on behalf of the artist if necessary.
