Agent Artist Contract

An agent artist contract is a legal agreement between an artist and a person hired to be that artist's professional agent. Agents acts as representatives for artists, and help artists secure work assignments and contract deals. Agents promote their clients and use their contacts in the industry to advance the careers of their clients. Many different kinds of artists regularly employ agents, such as visual or fine artists, actors, dancers, singers or musicians, and writers. A formal agent artist contract protects both the agent and the artist, and specifically states both parties rights, responsibilities, and duties. One of the most important parts of an agent artist contract is the agent's right to commissions for work by the artist. A contract should clearly state the exact percentage of profits an agent is entitled to, and how the commission will be paid. Artists should be careful not to sign away too much of their profits to agents, and should consider having an attorney review an agent artist contract before agreeing to the terms.
